Purpose: To prepare teachers to easily use a broad participatory process, such as the World Café.
Participants:
• Teachers in Primary Education – with an emphasis on teachers of fifth and sixth grade and teachers of Civil Education in High School
• Members of Civil Society
• Representative of students (optional)
Specific objectives
A) As for teachers
• communication between teachers and the exchange of views on the subject and the overall implementation of Democratic Education in schools
• connecting the principles of Policy / Democratic Education with the behavior and the prevailing relations of children with each other
• recognition of the problems faced either in the classroom or in the wider school environment expressed by violence and aggression – expressing a swelling value-confusion, inertia and indifference
• sharing concerns, attitudes and their reflections in the matter of engaging students in joint decisions, the role of the hierarchy, the agreement on common standards, discrimination and prejudices in that play on school route – home – community and vice versa
• creating of a Network of Mentors for Democratic Education – a first core with further targeted actions
Β) Towards Civil Society
• the communication challenge with the world of education – the protagonists of everyday life in schools and the exchange of opinions in a democratic way on issues of common concern for the Active Citizens of Tomorrow
• recognition of the deficit on the continuous, early emerging understanding of the concept of active citizenship, result of Communication
• the challenge to achieve free dialogue based on a structured procedure, which is achievable through participation in large-scale World Cafe type interactions
• the emergence of individual reflection related to civil education level of citizens even the active ones
• their participation in (attempted) Network of Mentors for Democratic Education
C) Towards children
• dialogue on a broad scale and that and that this may be possible with rules
• communication with teachers “around the table”
• the challenge of their critical understanding
• the considerations of challenge prejudice, apparently bullying, school environment as joy and relationships or rather as fear environment and rivalries.
